How to Enter Your Peonies

Everyone Welcome!
Free Admission...bring your Peony flowers to enter!
Here is the 2019 Peony Schedule to download and print. In it is information on the Court of Honour, Artistic Floral Design Requirements, Trophies awarded at this Show, How to Enter the show, 83 Classes of Peonies, and Rules and Regulations.

Peony Entries:

Everyone is welcome to bring a peony, or peonies, to enter. Even if you don't know what type or cultivar name it has!
Tags will be available at the show to fill in.  If you have a number of entries, please consider bringing address labels to make it simpler to fill out the tags.
If you need tags to be mailed, please email castlegarpeony@gmail.com and request the estimated number of tags required and your mailing address.


How to enter your blooms:

Floral Entries: 
Vases, tags, and tools necessary for entering your bloom entries will be supplied. Any arrangements would be entered in their entirety.
How to Enter: 
1. All entrants must fill out a registration form upon arrival
2. All entries need a tag with the following information:
  • Name of peony: i.e. ‘Red Charm’ or ‘unknown’ if you don’t know.
  • Class: category of your bloom: single, double, tree, etc.  See reverse for class descriptions.
  • Name & address of entrant.  Bring your own address labels to make this easier if you have a few entries.
  • Attach tag to vase with rubber band provided, fold tag on dotted line to hide name and secure with paper clip
  • “Blue Dot” - Please attach a blue dot to the tag on any entries you plan to keep after the show.
  • Place your entry in the show in the proper section or ask a volunteer to help you.
Pointers for entries:
  • Stems should be 12 “long.  Tree or ITOH blooms may be shorter.
  • Allow minimum 10 minutes for each entry.
  • Please come at least an hour before closing time.

Rules & Regulations:

  1. Anyone may enter the show. Maximum 2 entries per class.
  2. All flowers must have been grown by the exhibitor, except for those in Artistic Floral Design.
  3. All cut flowers are to be displayed in vases provided by the Castlegar Peony Show, except for Artistic Floral Arrangement containers, supplied by exhibitor.
  4. Judges have the authority to withhold ribbons from exhibits which lack quality.
  5. All known peonies are to be labeled with the cultivar name. Garden Beauties - Unidentified is the section for unknown blooms
  6. The show committee will move exhibits to proper categories if mislabeled, and to accommodate overcrowding.
  7. No exhibits shall be removed from the show prior to closing. Blue dot exhibits will be moved to a section for your pickup one hour before closing.
  8. All flowers shall be claimed by exhibitors one hour prior to closing. Unclaimed entries will be sold at closing.
  9. The Castlegar Peony Show shall not be held liable by exhibitors for loss of containers or other materials or for personal injury on the premises.

Artistic Floral Design:

  1. Containers must be supplied by exhibitor. Maximum 2 entries per class.
  2. All plant material must be authentic (not artificial).
  3. Flowers from gardens other than your own are permitted, as are wild flowers and grasses. Peonies should be the dominant flower.
  4. Designs may include non floral additions such as wood, stone, toys, decorations and flags.
  5. Exhibitors are encouraged to replace any wilted material on the second day of the show and are responsible for maintaining a water supply in containers.
